Local charities receive $830,000 in grants from Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament

Officials from the PGA Tour, Northern Ohio Golf Charities and Bridgestone Americas Inc. recently doled out more than $830,000 from the 2009 World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational to 43 local charities.

Among the grant recipients: $50,000 to Akron Children's Hospital Women's Board, $37,000 to Mobile Meals, $30,000 to First Tee of Cleveland, $27,000 to MetroHealth Foundation, $25,000 to Ronald McDonald Children's Charities, and $15,000 to University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation is part of a volunteer group that has sponsored professional golf tournaments at Firestone Country Club for more than 50 years, providing more than $19 million to Northeast Ohio nonprofits.
